Designing event technology for real-time operation.

A conference digital environment combining searchable poster browsing, metadata-driven discovery, large-screen presentation, keyboard navigation, staff-facing controls, display testing, and bilingual operational documentation.

Digital posters had to work as part of the event, not as isolated files.

Participants needed to find posters quickly, view them at useful scale, and move between presentations without unnecessary friction. Staff needed reliable controls and recovery options throughout continuous on-site use.

I worked across the conference website, visual direction, poster information structure, search, navigation, presentation behavior, monitor testing, operating controls, and bilingual documentation required for practical delivery.

The interface had to serve visitors, screens, and staff at the same time.

The technical problem was inseparable from the operating environment. Search, scaling, navigation, recovery, and documentation all affected whether the system could be used confidently during the event.

Participants needed to locate posters by number, title, presenter, or author instead of browsing every item manually.

Large-screen presentation

Poster content needed to remain readable and properly proportioned while preserving screen area and keeping controls unobtrusive.

Event-day reliability

Staff required predictable behavior, reset functions, clear operating controls, and documentation for continuous live use.

The directory combines poster thumbnails, numbering, metadata, selection state, and direct presentation access within one browsing environment.

Connecting interface design to event operation.

My responsibilities covered both the participant-facing experience and the staff-facing tools required to operate the system reliably.

    Conference Web

    Produce the surrounding event experience.

    Designed and developed conference information pages, navigation, responsive layouts, and visual elements.

    Information Structure

    Organize poster data for browsing and search.

    Structured poster numbering, titles, presenter information, author information, and searchable metadata.

  3. 03

    Interaction

    Build search, navigation, and presentation controls.

    Developed poster search, listing, preview, previous and next navigation, keyboard controls, and directory return paths.

  4. 04

    Display Testing

    Design for the actual monitor, not an assumed viewport.

    Tested resolution, proportions, poster scale, control visibility, and full-screen presentation on event hardware.

    Operation & Handover

    Prepare staff to run the system confidently.

    Prepared staff controls, reset behavior, configuration guidance, Japanese and English manuals, and technical README documentation.

The system was designed around event-day constraints.

A conference display system has different priorities from a conventional website: fast recovery, predictable controls, readable scaling, and low operating ambiguity matter more than decorative interaction.

Discovery

Support both visual browsing and metadata search.

The directory gives users an overview while search provides a direct route when they already know a number, title, presenter, or author.

Presentation

Keep controls predictable and preserve poster area.

Presentation mode minimizes interface competition with the poster while retaining consistent previous, next, pause, and return controls.

Recovery

Treat reset behavior as part of the product.

Staff workflows and documentation were designed so the system could be returned to a known state quickly during continuous event use.

Testing included the physical display and the operating workflow.

The system was checked against the conditions that matter during live use, including display proportions, navigation, full-screen behavior, search, keyboard input, and staff recovery.
